Tirupati Laddu Row | Supreme Court forms SIT to probe allegations of adulteration in ghee
The Supreme Court constituted an independent Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe allegations of use of adulterated ghee in making laddus offered as prasad at the Tirumala Tirupati temple. Stating that an independent body would inspire confidence, the court replaced the SIT formed by the Andhra Pradesh government.
The SIT will comprise two officers of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to be nominated by the CBI director. Two officers of the Andhra Pradesh State Police to be nominated by the state government and senior officers of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
