Domestic Violence Act applies to every woman in the country: Supreme Court
The Supreme Court said that the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 (Domestic Violence Act) applies to every woman in India, regardless of her religious affiliation.
A bench of Justices BV Nagarathna and N Kotiswar Singh said, "This Act is a part of the civil code, which applies to every woman in India, regardless of her religious affiliation and/or social background, to provide more effective protection of her rights guaranteed under the Constitution and to protect women who are victims of domestic violence occurring in domestic relations."
